Parkview MMS PTO By-Laws

Article I

Name

The name of this organization shall be the Parkview Montessori Magnet School Parent Teacher Organization.

Article II

Purposes

1. To bring closer relationship the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the training of the child.
2. To develop between educations and the general public such united efforts as well as secure for every child the highest advantage in the physical, mental, moral and spiritual education.

Article III

Membership and Dues

  1. Any person interested in the objectives for which this organization is formed may become a member upon payment of dues, as provided in Section Two of this article, by the election to an office is limited to Parkview Montessori staff and parents or guardians having children in this school.
  2. The General Board shall establish membership dues for the current school year based on recommendations from the membership committee.
  3. Interested persons may join the organization at anytime, however, there will be a membership drive conducted early in the school year.

Article IV

Officers and Elections

  1. The officers shall be a President, a Vice President, a Secretary, a Parliamentarian, and a Treasurer who shall be elected at the last PTO meeting of the current school year.
  2. Each officer of the PTO shall be a member of this PTO.
    1. Officers shall be elected by a majority vote. However, if there is but one nominee for any office, election for that office may be by voice vote.
    2. Nomination for office shall be made by a nominating committee consisting of three (3) members appointed by the General Board to be chaired by a member of the executive committee.
    3. New officers shall be installed at the close of the last meeting of the school year and serve a term of one year ending on the last meeting of the current school year.
    4. Vacancies occurring in the year shall be filled by the executive committee for the unexpired term.
    5. No individual shall be allowed to serve more than two consecutive years in the same office.
  3. Duties of Officers
    1. The President shall preside at all meetings of the organization and the General Board and shall be ex-officio member of all committees with the exception of the nominating committee.
    2. The Vice-President shall act in the absence of the President.
    3. In the absence of both the President and the Vice-President, the principal of the school shall act.
    4. The Secretary shall keep a record of all proceedings of the meetings of the organization and of the General Board and shall have custody of all books and records pertaining to the organization except those of the treasurer.
    5. The Treasurer shall receive all monies, keep an accurate record of all transactions, and pay out monies according to policies and procedures established and approved by the board. Checks shall be signed by such officer or officers as the General Board may from time to time designate.
  4. All records, books, and literature of the organization shall be passed on to the appropriate succeeding officer within 10 days after the last PTO meeting.
  5. An Auditing Committee shall be appointed by the Executive Committee which shall audit the books of the Treasurer within 10 days after the first PTO meeting. This committee shall record findings.

Article V

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee shall consist of the Officers of the Organization and the Principal of the school. The President will be Chairman of this Committee.

Article VI

General Board

The General Board shall consist of the Executive Committee and one teacher from the following groups: Parkview Montessori and Special Needs of Parkview and an Assistant from either area.

Article VII

Committees

The General Board may designate committees, as they deem necessary, to conduct business of the organization. All members of such committees will be members of the PTO except as otherwise provided by the General Board. The committees may include, but are not limited to:

  • Auditing
  • Membership
  • By-Laws
  • Fund Raisers
  • Nominating

Article VIII

Parliamentary Authority

Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised, shall govern the organization during all meetings.

Article XI

Amendments

These By-Laws may be amended in any regular meeting by a 2/3 majority vote of the members present. Previous notice of such pending amendments shall be given at a regular meeting of the organization. If for any reason this is not possible, written notice shall be sent out from the General Board at least seven (7) days prior to the meeting.
